Natured Restored: The Origin of The Green Spurt Story

In the second article of the The Green Spurt: A peek into the process series, we’re diving into how the story world came to life.

The major event that shapes our future story

We started to research current trends and look for a weak signal of what might bring a shift into our future lives.

A great inspiration for this was the Dubai Future Foundation: THE GLOBAL 50 2024 report. The 'Saving Ecosystems' mega trend surfaces an opportunity: What if nature grew and regenerated faster?

You might have noticed by now—that's also where the game's name came from.

So we asked ourselves:

  • What if humanity failed to predict the long-term effects of bioengineering?
  • And what was the pivotal event that triggered a shift in our way of life?

Enter: The Pollen Dispersal Moth.

A moth with wing hair and a vegetation camouflage.
The Pollen Dispersal Moth - Created by Certain Measures for Museum of the Future, Dubai

This artifact became our narrative spark. Created by Certain Measures for the Museum of the Future in Dubai and exhibited in the HEAL Institute, it represents a speculative yet plausible leap in bioengineering: a moth whose wing hairs carry pollen and mimic vegetation for camouflage.

  • What if this future innovation had unintended consequences?

And just like that, our story was taking shape.

"Humanity's journey here...

... has been one of innovation and adaptation.

It began with a growing wave of ecological awareness, advances in genetic engineering brought hope for a healthier planet for all.

In 2070, the HEAL global initiative redefined humanity's relationship with the environment. The release of bioengineered solutions like the Pollen Dispersal Moth intended to help nature grow and regenerate faster.

But… 10 years later, we kind of had some unintended consequences. The moth, remember the one that we released? Led into some plant mutations, creating super pollen, nature's glitter, gets everywhere impossible to clean, and now, apparently toxic.

So, we had to move into the BioVaults, facilities originally created for research that had advanced air filtration systems. These spaces were repurposed into living quarters.

This BioVault, known as RELEAF, was a marvel of innovation. Dragonflies became essential partners in restoring balance, naturally regulating the moth population that had increased due to the crisis.

But now, RELEAF's filtration system has encountered a critical failure, challenging the balance that sustains its inhabitants."

💡 Our game invites players to explore a story on how we adapt, reflect, and rebuild in harmony with nature as it continues to evolve.
